Simulation of Wave Propagation over Coastal Structures Using WCSPH Method

In this paper a space-averaged Navier–Stokes approach was deployed to simulate the wave propagation over coastal structures. The developed model is based on the smoothed particle hydrodynamic (SPH) method which is a pure Lagrangian approach and can handle large deformations of the free surface with high accuracy. In this study, the large eddy simulation (LES) turbulent model was coupled with th...

Numerical Studies of Coastal Internal-Wave Mixing

Away from surface and bottom boundary layers turbulent mixing is primarily driven by breaking internal waves. While internal wave energy is generated mostly in the form of large-scale waves (typically internal tides), it is the smallest-scale internal waves that break through shear or convective instabilities to produce turbulence. When waves are reasonably linear (as opposed to, for example, s...

Numerical model for wave overtopping and transmission through permeable coastal structures

In this paper, an energetic wave propagation model that reproduces shoaling, refraction, diffraction, waveecurrent interaction, bottom friction and wave breaking is modified to simulate also the processes of overtopping and wave transmission over and through permeable coastal structures. This enhances the capabilities of the model and allows to obtain, at a low computational cost, a better repr...

Adaptive Error Protection for Energy Efficiency

With dramatic scaling in feature sizes, noise resilience is becoming one of the most important design parameters, similar to performance and energy efficiency. Noise resilience is particularly problematic in long on-chip buses of complex single chip systems such as on-chip multiprocessors. While one might opt to employ a very powerful error protection scheme, this may not be very energy efficie...

Computational wave dynamics for innovative design of coastal structures

For innovative designs of coastal structures, Numerical Wave Flumes (NWFs), which are solvers of Navier-Stokes equation for free-surface flows, are key tools. In this article, various methods and techniques for NWFs are overviewed. In the former half, key techniques of NWFs, namely the interface capturing (MAC, VOF, C-CUP) and significance of NWFs in comparison with the conventional wave models...
